About Our Art Portfolios
I want to thank Parents and Guardians of our young artists for their patience in waiting for art work to come home. As a parent, myself, I know how exciting it is to receive these precious creations and to display them at home. Please read the note below about what is happening with your artist's art work this year.
In our Art program at the Johnson School each young artist has their own Art Portfolio with a cover they designed in Art class. Art Portfolios are stored in our Art Room for the entire school year and they contain all of the art created during Art class, except for 3D work which is sent home as it is completed. Each painting, sketch, drawing, collage or other 2D work has the date the work was created stamped on the back. The Art Portfolio is an important organizational tool that serves a number of purposes. I look through each portfolio when assessing art student's progress throughout the year and especially when doing report cards. Also, the portfolios allow students to keep track of their work and track their own progress as the school year progresses. This extra care imparts to the children a sense of greater importance to their artistic endeavors in art class. Parents and Guardians are welcome to make an appointment with me at any time during the school year to see their young artist's Art Portfolio. All Art Portfolios will go home with artists in the last weeks of the school year, along with a list of projects and the dates the projects were created. They provide a way to keep art work safe and organized for years to come.
