Our Kindergarten artists have been painting with tempera paints since the beginning of the school year. This has been wonderful fun! One of the main goals of this introductory painting unit is to explore mixing primary colors to make secondary colors - and brown.
Below are photos of a bulletin board I just put up in the Kindergarten classroom. It is a display of examples from each painting lesson so far this year. Each child has one painting on display here. Parents can view this board in the Kindergarten classroom during their up-coming conferences with Ms. Purdin. The first paintings are the blue and then the yellow paintings. The last paintings are the ones done with the primary colors of Red, Yellow, and Blue, and finally the ones done with Magenta, Yellow, and Turquoise - as alternates to the primary colors. The apple tree paintings were made right after our super fun, and delicious, field trip to Brooksby Farm. Parents are always welcome to contact me to request a meeting to look throught their child's Art Portfolio, stored in the art room. Our 4th, 5th, & 6th grade artists have been working on their Gyotaku prints these past few weeks. This is an art form that originated in Japan almost 200 years ago. Japanese fishermen began printing the fish they caught to preserve a record of their catch. Our JES students have enjoyed the process of printing the fish and then using water color paints to finish their works of art. They also learned about the special signature and stamp that master Gyotaku artists use to sing their work. |
