Our 4th, 5th, & 6th grade artists have been working on their Gyotaku prints these past few weeks. This is an art form that originated in Japan almost 200 years ago. Japanese fishermen began printing the fish they caught to preserve a record of their catch.
Our JES students have enjoyed the process of printing the fish and then using water color paints to finish their works of art. They also learned about the special signature and stamp that master Gyotaku artists use to sing their work.
